Happy New Year | Resolutions For The Car Industry in 2010

Happy New Year everyone, and welcome back for the start of a brand new year for the car industry.

Personally, we have just bought a new car (a 2004 1.9 SDI Twist VW Polo) to replace the significantly dying Vauxhall Corsa. It ain’t a supercar by any mean, but VWs are reliable, and once you ignore the somewhat loud diesel engine it soon pays back out investment in fuel economy and eager good looks. We are, of course, relatively pleased with the result, and hope to have a year of successful driving and minimal serving charges to come!

So, what are our resolutions and predictions for the car industry this year?

  1. The focus for most will be on small cars – economic, practical and reliable!
  2. I hope to see a really successful electric car that can actually get you from A all the way to B
  3. Fuel cell cars may become a reality rather than a distant dream
  4. Will car sales fall due to the VAT hike? Or the stop of the Scrappage scheme?
  5. Saab will be bought out… risky, but somewhat likely…

What are your resolutions and predictions for the car industry in 2010?
