It isn’t easy being green, but celebrities are doing their very best in Hollywood to do their bit for the environment. The likes of Rene Zellwegger, Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney and Demi Moore have recently been seen sporting hybrid vehicles such as the Toyota Prius or Clooney’s electric car – The Tango.
However despite this recent Celebrity trend, British motorists seem less enthusiastic about exchanging their cars for a more environmentally friendly option. Figures from CarLoan4U stated that just a mere 1% of car finance applications in the UK are for Hybrid vehicles…are Hybrid cars really THAT unappealing?
The recent 2010 Paris Motor show tried to add an ‘eco-mobility’ spin to its spectacle and hoped to create a positive advertisement for hybrid cars as sleek, sporty and overall fun vehicles to own, and tried to bump up the interest by showing the new Hybrid Lotus Elite. I have to admit that I always thought of Hybrid cars as a bit of fad and I presume this is what other Brits have been thinking too.
However…I have to say that after seeing some more recent Hybrid cars, I am coming around to the idea of them as stylish, performance vehicles that are just a little bit quirky. Previous worries of them being expensive, small and underpowered have been dispelled and I no longer think of plugs and wires as soon as ‘electric car’ is mentioned.
To get you in the mood, I’ve picked a couple of quirkier hybrid models. It may be more of a celeb trend for now but I’m hoping for it to spread a little closer to home!
