It’s hard not to be completely spellbound by these cars, and I’m not afraid to say that after encountering a Maserati on the motorway it completely took my breath away. There’s some sort of understated elegance that exudes from the design, it’s unassuming and discrete which makes it all the more desirable!
The sportiest version of Maserati’s coupe; the GranTurismo S was developed by the company for those looking for a ’distinctive’ car, and distinct it certainly is. There are undoubtedly a number of performance cars on the market today which have questionable designs, some of which look more like space ships than cars. But the Maserati GranTurismo S is a vehicle that could be used for every day living despite its power and extraordinary performance. I would imagine that it’s the type of car that you could run errands in and not feel like a show off (but still know you’ve got a sweet ride).
The overall look of the car can sometimes make it appear slightly awkward in photos, however with all the right curves in all the right places and a grill at the front that looks like it could suck up the car in front, it has definite road presence. The grittier details of the 4.7 litre V8 (Ferrari built but Maserati specific) engine, is teamed with a sports exhaust and an electro-actuated gear box, which all work for a faster drive and sweeter sound.
The interior is generous enough to fit four people in comfortably and the interior design typifies Maserati’s aim to create a mix of performance and comfort. The upholstery of Poltrona Frau Leather creates increased luxury and covers the bolstered seats. The design gives the driver the sense that everything is under their control, through the layout of the chrome edged gear shift paddles and the central console feature.
It’s a car that I find hard to fault but it may not be to everyone’s tastes… For someone lucky enough to be able to afford one of these, they may prefer to buy something more outlandish like a Lamborghini. But it is probably safe to say you won’t find anything with more understated opulence or performance focused as the Maserati GranTurismo S.
