Nissan have announced news that their newest concept, the ‘Invitation’ is going to begin production at its Sunderland plant in 2013! The current concept presents a lifeline of skilled jobs for the local economy say’s Unite, Britain’s biggest union. The idea of such a high profile investment is gratefully received as a welcome boost for the motor industry, especially during a time of speculation with regards to General Motors decisions to potentially close its Ellesmere Port factory in Merseyside.
Vince Cable, Business Secretary stated “Global vehicle manufacturers are beating a path to the UK’s door. They recognise that the Government values the automotive sector”, furthermore Nissan has been helped with a £9.3m offer of funding from the Government’s £2.4bn Regional Growth Fund. Fresh back from his trip to the US to plead with General Motors regarding its prospective closure of the Ellesmere Port Factory, Vince Cable intended to take advantage of the Nissan Investment and utilise it to showcase the attractiveness of the UK to foreign car manufacturers.
Aside from the questionable moniker, the car itself looks very promising, and we look forward to watching its rise to production on our soil!
