This isn’t the first time that we have reported on issues in the UK secondhand car market. Back in January we reported about the problems with independent dealers mis-selling cars, and now those stats seem to be being backed up by the newest OFT stats report.
These stats declare that One in Five consumers who have bought a secondhand car in the past year have experienced problems – which is yet another negative number in an area plagued by dramatic headlines and damaging examples. The poor second hand car dealers who do do a good job are overlooked in favour of the cases that really stand out from the rest – but these statistics suggest that this is much more widespread problem than previously thought.
However, it is worth noting that all is not bad. The existing laws deal well with thesekind of problems, and we have to remember that a certain amount of common sense is always going to be involved when buying a car. Stick to using professional and reputable dealers, and don’t just believe whatever you are told – check your figures and do your homework before you buy.
